There is a little bit of technology in me that serves to verify my identity at home. It's tied to everything I need to live as a member of society. My career. The place I live. My food. My clothes. My ability to travel or access services.
They're tamper-proof to prevent identity theft. If they get damaged or stop detecting signs of life, they self-destruct completely. They can't be repaired, afterward. The information can't be recovered.
Oye, that sounds as serious as it gets... Are you sure it's tamper-proof though? Peony has a lot of tech geniuses who might be able to do something to help.
If it happens, naturally, I'll ask them for help. But it was designed by tech geniuses to be impervious to other tech geniuses, so I'm not going to count on it.
Incarceration until they're able to verify their ID. But it's a slow process, and I don't have that much time left. So if I'm going to die in prison anyway, I might as well stay in this one. The company's better.
Yeah... It's really not fair. If I were you I'd just wish for the technology to not even exist anymore, but I dunno what that would actually do to your world.
If I could wish for anything, it probably wouldn't be to change a global system just so I could live one more month as a cog in a machine before disappearing forever, without a single trace left behind. If I got that far, I'm sure I can come up with something more satisfying.
But for me...I haven't decided yet. The one I've been thinking about the most is using it to cripple The Reach's empire, but figuring out the best way do that is a galaxy-sized headache. They're so far spread that there's no telling what might happen in the power vacuum they'd leave behind.
That does seem much more difficult to figure out, for sure.
Perhaps... you could wish for it to be overthrown by a group of your preference, instead? An organization that is complex enough to repair what damage has been done, and replace it with something good instead of creating space for something worse.
Could you... wish for all members of the Reach to have a change of heart and join the Green Lanterns?
Then you'd have an entire galaxy-spanning organization's worth of infrastructure already fleshed out, trained up, and entrenched, working for your agenda instead of their own. And with less death involved all around.
Charon suggested that too. It's still kind of...a lot like what they did to Scarab's whole species.
I don't want to just program them magically, but maybe I could wish for them to all spontaneously develop empathy or something. They could figure it out from there.
[she's swishing her tail back and forth across the cobbles surrounding the fountain, like a cat that is thinking about something exciting.]
I don't know how normal anything really is around here, but I'm sure we could find something fun to do together, no matter what level of knowledge you already have.
I could teach you how to do taxidermy, or mount insects! Or we could dissect something. Or I can show you how to sequence DNA, once I manage to get the auto genome sequencer for the lab! I have a quest, I just need to execute it. I'm so excited!

But now you understand what I meant when I said I'd like to go home, but it's complicated.

Re: Memories
What will you wish for? For yourself.

Use your wish to delegate, maybe.

Re: Memories
...Do you know how they did it?

Re: Memories
Would you like to lean biology??
[BECAUSE, SHE,]
Re: Memories
Sure. It'll probably be useful to know one day.
Re: Memories
[she didn't actually expect him to agree.]
[NOW WHAT?? HECK. DOES SHE HAVE TO COME UP WITH LESSON PLANS???]
...That's great!
Re: Memories
Really. It'll be nice to do something normal for a change.
