[he stands up straight and steps back and aside so she can come in]

[ she walks in, and... come to think of it, she's never been in here before. ]

Though I did come to see if you guys needed anything.

[it's a pretty nice barn, you can tell a bunch of teen boys live here (and Tyr)]

I don't think we do? Just checking in on us is plenty.

[ boys. ]

If you're sure... I really do mean anything.

I'm sure . . . like what?

I don't know. You're supposed to tell me.

The guys might need something?

... Fine, it's not a big deal, anyway. As long as you're resting up.

. . . you just coming to check up on us is a pretty big deal.

I'm trying to rest, though.

[he huffs a little laugh]

[a tired, amused noise]

... I don't know. The past few days were pretty awful. You could be anything right now.

[he pauses]

I'd . . . be lying if I said I was completely okay. It's been really rough lately - it still is.

What about you? You could be anything - but you seem like yourself to me, too.

[ ....... gives a halfhearted shrug ]

Dunno. I feel kind of numb, really.

[he tilts his head]

Numb is understandable. Too much too quickly.

[ at first, she slips out a quiet hum in lieu of a real response, followed by silence. then: ]

Do you wish you could just go home? And not care about whatever stupid beef is going on here anymore?

[boy, what a question. He debates some general, noncommittal answer, but instead:]

Mmm . . . there's been a couple of times where I wished I didn't care as much as I do.

Yeah.

If someone gave me the chance right now, I'd just leave. That's how I feel right now.
