I'd . . . be lying if I said I was completely okay. It's been really rough lately - it still is.

Dunno. I feel kind of numb, really.

[he tilts his head]

Numb is understandable. Too much too quickly.

[ at first, she slips out a quiet hum in lieu of a real response, followed by silence. then: ]

Do you wish you could just go home? And not care about whatever stupid beef is going on here anymore?

[boy, what a question. He debates some general, noncommittal answer, but instead:]

Mmm . . . there's been a couple of times where I wished I didn't care as much as I do.

Yeah.

If someone gave me the chance right now, I'd just leave. That's how I feel right now.

. . . [he hesitates, but then rests a tentative hand on top of her head]

I'd send you home if I could.

Sorry. I was supposed to see how you were doing, not complain.

Don't be. If that makes you feel a little better, then I'm glad to listen to it.

[ is it really okay to complain when the guy in front of you became tomato paste the day before.......... ]

[he gives her hair a little ruffle, then drops his hand]
