[the morning of day 22 begins with a light drizzle, as has been typical for the past few days. but despite the damp weather, a playlist of music also echoes across the pasture, luring you towards the center!]

[there, you will find that someone has planted a large bamboo tree, which is surrounded by wooden tables that are covered with colorful slips of paper and pens. a colorful sign, decorated with random doodles of stars, clouds, suns, and other fun shapes, contains a set of instructions:]

WELCOME TO TANABATA!

WRITE A WISH ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND TIE IT TO THE BAMBOO TREE.

HAVE FUN!

[the music and the bamboo wishing tree are a great start to the festival, but other people have been hard at work to make this a day to remember, right?]

And he gets fucking blasted with Vash's adoration for him. His gratitude. His relief at having him back, strong enough to make the knees weak even secondhand. His admiration. His respect. Lets the attraction through too, just to fully body Wolfwood to the ground while he's at it. ]

that said, Wolfwood is not prepared. not at all. and it's a good thing he does have such a strong grip on Vash right now because he does just lose all sense of up or down and legs do kind of buckle under the weight and he's having to really lean on Vash through it.

sometimes you got as far as "you're the dead loved one" and "vash might actually want to bang you" but somehow underestimated a lot of that, too. oops.]

[ Supporting Wolfwood when he buckles, but there's definitely a "then perish" air about him, in general.

The emotional flood stops as quickly as it came, at least.

[ Good plan! Much better plan than shooting him or yelling at him or whatever else Wolfwood always does. Clearly that has only ever gotten them so far.

And if Vash's grip tightens on him like the sad, pitiful man he is, well. He's earned it at least a little, at this point. ]

[he's earned it a little, and the kiss isn't as demanding as the earlier one but probably no less fraught with the emotions. it's not quite soft and gentle, instead more firm, solid, definitely present in the moment.

Wolfwood lets go the grip not on Vash's collar to put that hand to his face, this being more gentle even with his hands being more on the calloused side of rough.]

[ Vash, meanwhile, is . . . less bold than he was in his ideal imagined scenario, where every hangup and problem was conveniently set aside or resolved. This is, for better or worse, real life. And things are different.

But one thing is the same: handling Wolfwood like he's something precious beyond measure or description, with hands and lips both. ]

[dreams really are way more convenient in just being able to push everything to the side, the sand and grit not having to gunk up all of the moving parts. Wolfwood eases off the kiss for a moment, not pushing them to gasping for breath right now.

he pulls back enough so he's able to look Vash in the eye, voice quiet and low as if making sure only Vash can hear him even when there's no one else around,]

[it's something Vash allows for and also something Wolfwood can do very easily and therefore ideal in this moment specifically, so he's just going to keep that up while he. calms down. from all the emotions.

though the emotions about Charon are still plenty hot, he's still pretty pissed about that, actually.
