[the morning of day 22 begins with a light drizzle, as has been typical for the past few days. but despite the damp weather, a playlist of music also echoes across the pasture, luring you towards the center!]

[there, you will find that someone has planted a large bamboo tree, which is surrounded by wooden tables that are covered with colorful slips of paper and pens. a colorful sign, decorated with random doodles of stars, clouds, suns, and other fun shapes, contains a set of instructions:]

WELCOME TO TANABATA!

WRITE A WISH ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND TIE IT TO THE BAMBOO TREE.

HAVE FUN!

[the music and the bamboo wishing tree are a great start to the festival, but other people have been hard at work to make this a day to remember, right?]

Uh-huh. But if you don't have a name then most people won't know to contact you regarding your posting, see? I took a guess. Someone who hasn't met you or doesn't know you well wouldn't think to contact you to see if this is yours.

Secondly, you asked for "test subjects" which sounds too ominous to contemplate.

The shady merchant promised me a decent knife and some linens for my workshop if I could develop a new poison for him. I figure an anesthetic with calming properties might be a good option. It'd only be deadly in high doses.

It was either that or trick someone into drinking something he made that I know nothing about.

Ask for consent before giving people suspicious things to drink.

That's why I refused. My pride as an apothecary means I wouldn't give someone something I hadn't verified myself, and certainly not blindly.

But you're still asking for "test subjects" to blindly try something of yours...

First of all, if you're just looking for supplies like that, I can get you some. Going along with every suspicious thing Red asks of you is dangerous. Second of all, if you're asking for people to do something dangerous like test your poisons, you should be offering them some sort of compensation. And lastly, you can at least sign it with "ms. pharmacist" if nothing else.

[makes a 'gimmie' motion with his hand]

I was going to explain once I had volunteers.

And I already told you, I negotiated with him for a better option. At least with something I develop, I have an idea of what the effects will be and at what potency. I have my professional pride at stake. I'm not going to give someone something that will make them distrust what I make.

...Also, I don't have it with me. It's simmering in my workshop.
