Re: Dream - The Nightmare
She stares at Death for a long moment—it would be her first time seeing her proper, after all—before making an attempt to ignore the elephant in the room and address the scene before her. ]
Sacrifice others...? How so?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
She asks, and the dream answers. Mist swirling over the sickly wife, revealing a rare flower. . .and then hordes of wolves trying their best to reach it, and dying in the process. It's too risky, too perilous a journey. The wolf accepts her fate, rather than endanger those who seek the cure.
Curiously, Death and the wife seems to share the same face. Aside from Death having the giant Eye and all.
But the black wolf sobs]
It should have been me. I should have sought it out--I gave up. I was a coward. I let her die!
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
[ If he will accept comforting pats, then he gets them. ]
Would she have wanted you to die trying to get the cure for her?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
She'd never admit it. I would have given my life for hers.
[he keeps crying. The room is slowly filling with ears, quickly getting up to her ankles.]
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
Freakin' dream logic. ]
Would that have made her happy?
[ He really is cold, though. Spinel retracts her hand after the pat. ]
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
It's up to her chest, seeping into the bed.]
I care not for her happiness if it she lived. She could have found happiness elsewhere, even if not with me--!
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
H— hey! Could ya at least stop crying for a moment...?! Think about what you're saying!
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
It's up to her neck now.
wow if only she could transform into a certain animal to help her swim--I mean.
He bows his head.]
It doesn't matter IT DOESN'T MATTER. Would you not destroy the world for the one you love?!
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
I think I would settle for punching an asshole or two—! C'mon...!
[ But she'll try to reason first. At least she can float for a minute here... Unless it gets too high. ]
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
The King squeezes the dead wolf's hand.
He has one more question.]
Then, when all hope is lost. . .
You will simply accept an unfair death?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
[ It's a touch more frantic than she'd like, but she's under the threat of being submerged here. ]
I had to see my mom and dad get brutally killed like their lives didn't mean anything—and I get it. Your grief hurts so much that you just wanna—you want to hurt something and burn everything down and make it go away, y'know? But you have to find the strength to know that isn't any way to live the rest of your life!
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
[The water fills the room now, flooding over head, sending the body floating, the king curling up. Spinel may feel as if she's drowning, gasping for air. . .but then it stills.
It's like she's been caught up in a bubble, alone with the grieving King.]
How did someone so small like you. . .find the strength?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
Heh... Would you believe I was even smaller than I am now?
[ A little funny, as a treat. ]
But—you realize you have others around, those who are still living, that love you too. My family now is small, but I know now they wouldn't have wanted me to see me hurt myself because of my grief.
And don't you have a family, too? What about your son and daughter?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
Do they need me? Do they want me? Even after all this?
Every night I dream, crying that I could have done more. For her, for them.
Is that dream out of my reach. . .?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
[ She really wishes she didn't have to hurry with this as much as she does, but, ]
They've both spent hundreds of years trying to save this world, and trying to save you! We found you here through your children's dreams if it meant having a chance that you could return to them, and all your people!
They want their family back, too—and that includes their father!
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
[And just with those words, the drifting, drowning image of Ceo in the water shifts. It now shows him sitting at his desk. Waiting, wondering. Probably still drinking tbh but who can blame him.
But the point is. he's there.]
Even now. . .he can still dream. I don't understand. He loved his mother even more than I did.
. . .
Can you. . .take me to him?
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
Phew, though. Maybe she's getting through to him after all. ]
... Yeah.
[ Easily. Spinel lifts her hand to him. ]
I'll take you to him right now. I think he'd like that.
Re: Dream - The Nightmare
[hesitantly, doubtful.
He takes her hand.
The bubble pops, and water washes over them.
But, if she can hold her breath long enough. . .she'll be fine.]
