which is to say, we probably have assorted pillows and blankets piled into our new basement living room, with breakfast happening in the kitchen and jellyfish hangin' around elsewhere. and our assorted? fish related prizes??? ]

[pours some batter into the taiyaki maker]

[starts pulling together a few other snacks while the taiyaki cook]

...What about your camp? It sounds like you really like camp. And you met Annabeth there. Isn't that a lucky break?

[pulls a piping-hot taiyaki out of the machine and sets it on a plate in front of Cepheus]

You, bringing trouble? You've literally been helping me from the minute I got here. Same goes for Kevin.

And haven't you been helping us since you got here? You're helping right now, too.

[ just stuffing the rest of this first taiyaki in his mouth. can't answer with his mouth fULL also like. he is helping. he guesses. but,,,, ]

...At the risk of sounding really old, I know exactly what it's like to bring other people trouble. Most of my life was spent dragging down the people around me, creating messes that I couldn't fix, and being stupid enough to be an easy mark for people to exploit me.

[starts piling all the snacks into plates and bowls to bring back to the basement]

I'm not telling you things just to be nice. They aren't empty words. It's also important to recognize when people are happy for your existence, regardless of what trouble you think it brings. And I don't think you've brought us any trouble here, anyway. It's okay to accept when you've had a positive influence on the people around you.

[ opens his mouth to answer, then stops himself. reconsiders. ]

Do you always care about people this much, this soon after meeting them? Serious question.

Well--no. Do you get along with everyone you've just met? There are people I meet who I can't stand. I can still manage to be polite to someone even if I don't like them, though. Especially if I live with them. But you're easy to get along with. Has no one said that to you before?

Easy to get along with? Definitely not.

You're a teenager. Most of the things you just listed are bound to pop up from time to time.

Obviously it's good to have manners, but I also don't think you've been rude to us. I'm willing to bet that if you're rude to people, they deserved it.
