I wonder what it cost him to help us like that.

... I don't know. I still can't believe he went against that wolf—that he could at all.

Whatever that shadow thing was did an incredible job of keeping him contained, and he even managed to clean Lyra's arm.

He must have a ridiculous amount of power, considering how we could barely hold our own against the wolf. That, or as I've been suspecting, his power is based around bargains in some way...

Which means we could potentially be in a very dangerous situation.

Don't make me tell the others you said that. They'll give you the same talks they gave me about trying to handle everything on my own.

But I can take responsibility for one thing.

...what I'm trying to say is that you don't have to handle this on your own. It was a good decision in the moment, and we likely wouldn't have been able to get back here if you hadn't.

And whatever the cost ends up being is surely going to be something you can't do on your own.

Fiiiine. Whenever he shows back up, I’ll talk to him and see what he says. Warden wanted to come with too, so…

Then I'll leave the correspondence to you. Just make sure you at least let Lyra and I know what he wants us to do. I can only assume he has some idea already. He's never struck me as an altruist.

...I do want to go ask him a few questions myself, however. Namely about that power he used.

Not weird, exactly. I think it's perfectly in-line with the little he's revealed so far.

It simply confirms that he's very, very powerful. You saw how many of us it took to fight that wolf the first time, so to be able to trap him so efficiently means Red is much more than just a fox wearing a sheepskin.

He probably also knows something we don't, but... he's pretty tight-lipped about stuff, unless we can give him something useful.

I'm sure he knows a lot of important information that we don't. At this point, I'm not sure if there's any information we have that he doesn't already know.

No way. I mean, there's us, but would he care about our business?

Leviathan seems to think he is interested in where we come from, but I'm not sure... it doesn't seem like he cares very much about what our respective universes are like.

Yeah, I dunno about that. There's gotta be something juicer.

I suppose it's worth keeping our ears open to see if we can find any information for him. Perhaps he'd be willing to lower what we owe if we find something particularly useful.

Ooh... That's a good idea. But we'll have to see what we owe first, anyway.

We do. But it'll be good to have something in our back pocket if necessary.
