WHO: you
WHERE: wherever
WHEN: afternoon into evening 61
[the spring thaw continues! how's that scent of fresh wet grass and the sounds of critters popping back up, huh?
towards evening, there's another strange smell on the breeze (ozone? oleander?) and a soft flurry of tiny dark feathers blown into the pasture and meadow.
if they happen to land on you, you may have a weird moment where you experience the perspective of some other, non-sentient creature in the area -- a squirrel scratching about in a nearby tree, for example, or a frog swimming in one of the team ponds, or one of the local songbirds stretching its wings and digging for worms.
it's harmless, and might be interesting, but it's also briefly disorienting. try not to fall on your face or into the lazy river.]

At least it is harmless enough. I wonder if plucking one for you could result in the perspective of a human.

...or human adjacent.

Oh! Well... I am human, actually. These did not appear until my arrival here.

But for my part, I'm a jackalope and not even remotely close to a human. Or a rabbit!!

[He isn't up-to-date with his slang but also he would never have heard about such a thing until just now.]
I do not think those are real cat ears, right? Unless those antlers are also removable.

And do you think them being magically real is any different than some cosplayer spending hours making animatronics when someone asks for a picture of a resident cat boy?

[ just going to press you on how much of a furry you are, the easy introduction ]

[He hasn't really through that deeply over this.]
Many different circumstances could cause the ears I possess right now to completely vanish. I have no control over it. And while both my ears and tail move, my ability to hear or see better never changed from that of a normal human. It is all simply cosmetic, in the end.

I have to say, with all the pretty boys around here drawing a line in the sand between functional and cosmetic is a little arbitrary. After all, the refrigerator ritual back before the kidnappings had your flocks making Frankenstein monsters out of all kinds of parts. Did you think of how to classify them as you were pasting those limbs together?

If you wish to be called a Rabbitlope I will do so regardless. Though I imagine simply using your name would be more polite.

My name is Crescendo. It is a pleasure.
Re: 2/2
Jackalope, but you can call me Warden. Just don't call me a rabbit.

You are a warden, then?

That's right. Pretty high ranking too, lots of subordinates to look out for besides keeping track of rowdy murderers.
