springle (spring mingle)

WHO: you
WHERE: wherever
WHEN: afternoon into evening 61

[the spring thaw continues! how's that scent of fresh wet grass and the sounds of critters popping back up, huh?

towards evening, there's another strange smell on the breeze (ozone? oleander?) and a soft flurry of tiny dark feathers blown into the pasture and meadow.

if they happen to land on you, you may have a weird moment where you experience the perspective of some other, non-sentient creature in the area -- a squirrel scratching about in a nearby tree, for example, or a frog swimming in one of the team ponds, or one of the local songbirds stretching its wings and digging for worms.

it's harmless, and might be interesting, but it's also briefly disorienting. try not to fall on your face or into the lazy river.]

[As you wander through the stacks, you can see the books are arranged by topics. Even if you can't read in waking life, everything appears in perfect clarity to you here. You see books about history, technology, health and anatomy, the pasture, the flocks, etc. If there's a topic you're interested in, you might be able to find it here.]

[ You'd never say no to a chance to plumb the depths of a library, any library.

The written word is pure. A speaker without audience, a voice without impatience, or obligation toward anything else, besides saying its piece, alone, for all time. To read... is a chance to shed, ever so briefly, all forms of pretense...

It's nice. You feel at ease here.

...You'd check out any library you were given a chance at, but you can't deny having your favorites.

Do tell, library. Is there a fiction section hiding somewhere in these shelves? ]

[The biology section is at least 75% of the library, so they'll be spoiled for choice. Not only is the entire history of life on Earth represented here, but also the entire history of life on Pulmungt.]

[So they are free to learn about dunkleosteus, Endoceras giganteum, sea scorpions, any of the dinosaurs, sarcosuchus, quetzalcoatlus, mosasaurs, andrewsarchus, entelodonts, short-faced bears, terror birds, modern whales, and any other earth animal that might catch their eye.]

[But there's also an entire other world's worth of predators to check out if/when they're done with that.]

[It's an anthology of Russian folk epics and other Slavic myths. It falls open to the song of Dobrynya and the Dragon, an epic ballad of a young hero and his struggles against the dragon Gorynich. Some parts of the text are underlined, and handwritten notes in the margins point out correlations in the story with historical events in zmeu history. For example, the mentions of the anomaly at the Puchai River no doubt refers to intrare in the Pochaina River. And while it's unclear if Emperor Gorynich really did visit Earth himself during this time, these stories correspond with a period during his reign from roughly 800 AD to 1200 AD when human harvest was at its peak. There are mentions of the famous general Prince Tugarin in some of the following pages, as well.]
