WHEN: Evening, Day 54 (to give some buffer to post-rescue talks during the day)

[Well THAT was a trip. But everyone is returned home relatively safely, the mushrooms are under control, and Death's eye is closed. Maybe things can return to semi-normalcy.

Lol. Lmao.

A dark shadow suddenly sweeps across the Pasture, and you'll find yourself forcibly yanked from where you stand, lay in bed, or otherwise where you're minding your business--though, some will be missed, inevitably. Those who get grabbed though get to glimpse at a massive shadow-like demon, wolf like in appearance but with giant ram horns, glaring down at you. His voice speaks as a whisper in your minds.

You will Speak his Vengeance.

If you do not speak it, I will enact it on his Behalf.

A random sheep waddles by, and then shadows overtake it--the poor sheep begins to contort, gasping for air as it's stretched and twisted into an unnatural eldritch mass, but still Very Much Alive. It rolls off to enjoy its eternal suffering.

And just like that you're yanked into the shadows, the demon's Intent clear in your heads. It's Ritual Time.]

( before he does that, perci grabs onto his arm to halt him. he hesitates, uncertain if he could even explain. )

... I told you before that I was a dancer. A master dancer, in reality. I know—I know, I'm not that anymore, but I have always been proud of my ability. Of my skill, built up over years.

And this... this thing that made me who I am, was taken from me. I—I don't know if I want to pretend it wasn't. Or maybe I should—?

[just kind of. ok. that does crack the completely icy calm he's operated under since the pasture went into full crisis mode. but what comes out is harsh. he is beyond exhausted. any gentleness he can normally muster is long since worn away.]

Is it pretending the wound was never there every time you heal an injury? Are your patients pretending bcause they were lucky enough to have a means of having it fixed?

What use is there in keeping yourself crippled and hampered and in pain if you do not have to? Is that principle worth it?

( perci flinches away sharply, curling into himself. )

[the reaction makes him stop and take a deep, deep breath, a muscle jumping in his jaw before he unclenches his teeth. he's still awkwardly half-knelt on the couch, his hands flat on the cushions where he caught himself]

I don't know how you accumulate this much hurt and think the right thing to do is to deliberately make more for yourself. I really don't.

( there's a long, long moment, before he hesitantly puts his hands on charon's shoulders: )

Are you upset that I'm hurt... and you feel like you can do nothing about it? Because of the powers that be, and because I am uncertain about this immediate decision?

I don't want to be without a leg forever, to be clear... I simply want to have a clear mind when I make this decision.

[l. laughs outright, a broken-glass noise]

( uncertain, but tries to stroke his hair. )

[he pulls back like Perci's hand burns. idk if Perci can tell the overclocked undernote nuance of 'he just fully cannot deal with being the one comforted in general right this second in this situation' but it's there]

I could very well do something about it right this moment, but due to -- whatever it is you're thinking, I appear to be rendered unable to.

Tell me when you've made your decision.

( ah. pulls his hand back. )

[ kind of alarmed to be getting a cubecall considering their last conversation. WHO DIED IN THE LAST HALF HOUR. ]

[Perci -- if he is still listening -- fully hears all of the inflection drain back out of his voice as he answers Minuet]

If it's not too much trouble, could you please come to Lily and stay with Perci awhile?

[ Crossing the room to sit next to him. ]

( f-frowns. )
