[ nods, reaching to set a hand on tempo. he makes a couple of sounds, his expression becoming (〃＾▽＾〃) ] I had been in the desert for a job when I came across a caravan. A man was selling some ancient tech from the tomb of King Deshret. I spent all of my money on it... knowing I could do something with it. I just... had a feeling. [ he grips tempo, tugging him close. ] As soon as I got back I set to work, and I made Tempo. He can follow basic commands, and he helps me with my work, ... [ and he does get the feeling he's learning and growing to a degree. ] He can't really talk, as I'm sure you've noticed... but he can make little sounds. I guess it depends on what it means to be 'alive'.

Does he like music?

He does! On occasion he'll make sounds along when I play the Dutar.

Then he's plenty alive enough! Just like the sheep.

[ a small smile. ] I'm glad you think so. People back home argue that machines aren't alive, but artificial intelligence has come a long way... and I do believe Tempo is... special.

He's certainly not like anything I've ever seen. But being able to appreciate music... that means there's emotions there.

That's why I have hope for these sheep, too.

...hm. [ he sets a hand on him. ] I wonder if you could teach him something. A simple piece. Nothing too crazy. He does have different tones with which he can... speak, so he might be able to emulate the songs a little.

That shouldn't be too hard at all. It actually sounds pretty fun.

[she'll tap the C-key and slowly go up and down the scale a few times.]

[ tempo manages to follow the scale for a few notes, but he can do the entire thing. his beeps and boops only go so high! but he does seem to be enjoying himself. ]

I think he really likes music.
