I'm holding lessons in Daffodil's pasture. Come if you want to, don't if you don't.

[ yeah, that's it. that's the whole thing. BUT if you do show up, the apothecary cat has set up several stations outside of her little workshop/cathouse: a makeshift firepit with a wooden drying rack, several large pots of varying sizes, and is currently in the process of chopping up a pygmidillo. and I do mean chopping. we are cleaving through bone here.

* For those who would notice, the ribbons in her hair are now Daffodil-yellow, but her collar is still black. ]

[Lupin is curious enough that he makes his way to Daffodil's pasture, hands resting in his pockets. he looks well-rested; much better than he did yesterday!]

Technically, food preservation. Though I did promise some people I would teach them how to cook properly as well.

Alternatively, as long as you bring your own supplies, I won't ask for anything.

I can't promise the first thing, though I can promise that Thistle isn't about to disrupt the peace.

And I can definitely provide my own supplies. My own ingredients, too.

We're a bit focused on meat today, but if you have any fruits or softer vegetables, I can show you how to preserve those as well.

--Fish would be especially good for this. Do you know how to butcher one?

Mmm, I do. I do most of the cooking back at Thistle. I learned how to catch and clean a fish when I was pretty young.

But I don't know how to preserve them, and that would make things a lot easier.

We'll smoke them, then. It'll make them lighter for storage as well.

The figs are probably best cooked down, or layered in sugar. I'm not sure where I'd find that unless I raided Daffodil's kitchen, though.

Ah. . . yeah. Thistle doesn't have any sugar.

But we can cook them down without it, right? I don't want to take any of Daffodil's resources. I know how much Biscuit likes his food.

The thing to do, is to offer part of what you make as recompense.

The thought crossed my mind, but that still would involve asking to use some of Daffodil's resources.

But if offering you some of our fig jam in return is suitable payment, then. . .

Why wouldn't it be? You're also contributing resources.

And I suspect that given the choice between "raw sugar" and "something made with the sugar," even Biscuit would rather choose the second.

What's the first step?

We get a fire going, and some lemons sliced.

I'm ready to do the slicing.

Cut the lemons into thin slices, if you will. I'll wash the figs.

[doing as instructed! he actually has pretty good control of the knife, too. and is using it like a PROPER CHEF would]

[ she observes for a few seconds just to make sure, then nods in approval before she heads to get the fire started. they can make quick work of all these figs. ]

What made you decide to hold cooking lessons?

I had multiple people express interest.

In that, and also in food preservation. It seemed expedient to just hold open lessons for anyone else interested.
