she is not running, but she does walk at a brisk trot, because frankly weird mushrooms are one of the most exciting things that have happened to her since arriving here (truth)(positive). ]

( he follows after her, keeping up with her pace. )

Why are you looking for poisonous specimens, anyhow?

Because they're interesting.

Even poisons have medicinal benefits, depending on the dosage and preparation and what other elements are present. But I wasn't looking for them deliberately. I just happened to find them along with everything else.

[terraria]

Mmm, true. Poisons can be medicinal or even antidotes if prescribed correctly... I forget that sometimes. I really do hope that I don't catch something that needs poison to cure it, or I'll be out of luck.

I think it'd be a good idea to have some on hand, anyhow. I'm not very good with them.

I'm happy to handle them. But why would you be out of luck?

[ at the treeline, she crouches down and grabs a stick, nudging a bit of dead log over to show him the mushrooms in question ]

I'm immune to any and all poisons.

( said as he crouches down and examines the mushrooms, a loose fist against his mouth. )

Hmmm. Normally something with this cap would be poisonous... but the black gills are what's curious. I've never seen this difference in coloring before.

( he reaches out to touch the cap, brushing a fingertip across it. )

Dry, not slimy... ( and when he reaches below to brush his fingers across the gills he freezes up. he pulls back. ) Ah. Yes, this is poisonous. Highly toxic.

[ she's noticed that, perking up a little ]

So like Fifi, then... but you can tell when something is?

[ she has no actual cat accoutrements, but if she did, her ears would be up and her tail would be lashing back and forth in activated interest ]

Mmm. Plants "speak" to me, as it were.

( he looks at his hand and pulls a handkerchief from the sash around his waist, wiping as much of the spores off as he can. )

... and I felt a very intent warning just now, along with a fuzzy feeling on my fingers. That's a sure sign of toxicity. It's like when you sit on your leg for too long and when you stand up, it feels like there's ants all over. That sort of feeling.

[ she considers for a moment, then fishes into her pocket for a strip of cloth--it's ragged and torn, and looks like it might have come from a Weed's normal clothes. (she is, for the record, wearing the new set that Crois got for her.) She wraps this around her hand, using it as a barrier to pick one of the mushrooms. ]

If they speak to you, and you were poisoned, could you still ask them to put some more effort in?

Sorry, are you telling them to keep poisoning me?

That won't override my immunity, I'm afraid.

If you're asking if I can ask them to be more poisonous, the answer is yes, but - not something I'm inclined to do when you're holding them.

I have a pretty high tolerance for this sort of thing.

[ but that said, she's careful about wrapping the mushroom up in its entirety with that strip of fabric ]

...anyway, if the problem is that you need a cure from a plant and it's a matter of dosage, I still think that'd be a legitimate path to try.

Though you said you had a tolerance for it? Did you build that up?

I did.

[ she's picking another mushroom, still in her wrapped hand. ]

My old man is a doctor, and I became interested in creating medicines when I was very young... and I was the easiest test subject on hand.

I was very interested in developing a universal panacea when I was a child. I'd still like to, someday.

Oh, really? That would be amazing if you were able to fashion it here.

... though that does leave the question to what's occupying your attention now.

I met a very interesting woman at home. One who claimed she'd developed a resurrection drug.

[ and she wants it. she wants that so bad!! GIVE TO MAOMAO ]

I'd like very much to compare notes with her again... or even better, create it on my own.

( he lets out a low whistle, shaking out his skirts as he straightens tall.

Even the land of the dead has bureaucracy. I'll be a servant in the afterlife just like I am in this one, so I might as well learn things that'll make me even more useful over there.
