Maybe the sheep killed the wolves to prevent themselves from being hunted by them, and buried their bones beneath the pasture so they may serve as fertiliser for the grass the sheep consume.

That was the second thing I was thinking about, to be sure.

I just don't know how sheep would be able to kill the wolves.

Poison. Traps. Ambushes. There're multitude of ways a weaker opponent can kill those stronger or more well-armed than them.

Well, we can grind this up into bonemeal, I suppose. Do you think you could dig - carefully, please avoid damaging roots - around the garden to see if you can find whatever bones you can? Just this area. I don't want wayward skeletons to interrupt plant growth. And the more bones we can repurpose for bonemeal, the better.
