The latter, not so much. Sometimes the former is made into a memento, though, if the person it belonged to has importance to you.

Fascinating!

All of us are basically identical so there'd be no way to tell whose scale it was once their scent faded. We don't have all the beautiful morphic variety you humans do. I can see the appeal in wanting to collect bits from people you like, though. How cool.
