That's enough ocean for now.

WHO: Roses and guests
WHERE: Rose barn
WHEN: Postgame and into day 75

[It's been a lot lately.

● Day 73
- Meris fight on the lawn
- Angie heartgame

● Day 74
- Oceanquest, Rose got their priest
- Jellyfish sudoku

Presumably our priest has been resting up...! And so are the rest of us, hopefully.]

[ he thinks this is amusing coming from someone who may be held together through neurosis and spite ]

That's one way. You could say doing something silly and petty like that with such consequences would be unexpected, but not as satisfying. What kind of move do you think would be worth the trouble?

[>"held together with neurosis and spite"
Yes. Correct.]

Well now I want to see if you can guess.
jerkalope: (Won't see what might have been)

Hmm, something intimate enough there's no mistaking your handiwork, but subtle enough to not be obvious to everyone. Poison is one tactic, I suppose.

[ honestly, exhibitionism may be the one toxic kink these two don't share ]

Heh, now I can see why you were cagey about telling me if you had any allergies. I don't feel as insulted now.

[personal profile] wants_the_phd 2024-04-29 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Were you insulted before?
jerkalope: (You labeled me I'll label you)

[personal profile] jerkalope 2024-04-29 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! A true master cook keeps his mise en pas pristine, and takes food allergies seriously. I may imprison murderers but I don't participate in accidental poisonings. It's tacky.

Oh dear. --Well, I assure you it wasn't personal. I just don't enjoy handing people leverage over me if I can help it.

What's the expression? "Once bitten, twice shy"?
jerkalope: (A vow unto his own)

[personal profile] jerkalope 2024-04-29 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
The biting goes more for the food than those eating it.

Eh, I know you won't actually believe me when I tell you to trust me about this, but I don't mess around with things like that. If I ever cook for you lot again, just tell me what you prefer in your ingredients. I don't want you gagging on something that keeps you from complimenting my skills!

[She stares at him for a beat.]

...Alright, then how's this: I like meals that are heavy on the meat, light on the vegetables, and kindly hold the alliums.

Better?

[ for once, his amused tone turns serious and he nods ]

No Italian, limited Chinese stir-fry. Got it. How are you with alcohol? Weeds keep getting booze as a prize and I want excuses to use it as seasoning before Edgelord drinks it all.

I can't say I've particularly enjoyed the experience on the couple occasions I've tried drinking it, but maybe it's different when mixed with other food...?

At home, we use it for sterilizing lab equipment and during some types of specimen preservation, so admittedly the smell brings back very specific associations. --Which is not to say I won't try it in a meal, just that the thought of drinking it straight is... mm. I'll leave it for someone else.
jerkalope: (So I dub thee unforgiven)

[personal profile] jerkalope 2024-05-01 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
This would be used as a marinate. The alcohol burns away most of what makes people tipsy and leaves an impression less about its taste and more what it does to the other ingredients, mostly making the meat softer and more aromatic.

If you wanted to leave it for someone to drink straight I think there are at least two Weeds who would drink formaldehyde if they thought there was alcohol in it.

Yes, I've noticed there are a fair few people who go out of their way to seek it out.

Do people like it for the flavor or the effect?
jerkalope: (A vow unto his own)

[personal profile] jerkalope 2024-05-01 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Drunk straight? Usually for the effect, there are too many shitty brands for it to be a simple matter of taste. It allows them to lose inhibitions and often disassociate from the higher brain functions, such as they are.

[personal profile] wants_the_phd 2024-05-01 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, okay. I'm not missing out, then. That's good to know.
jerkalope: (So I dub thee unforgiven)

[personal profile] jerkalope 2024-05-01 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Nope! And if you somehow thought you were, there are enough intrusive rituals to have the same effect. Just without the hangover, heh.

Oh, no, I'm good on that front on my own.

Have I told you I'm venomous?
jerkalope: (He tries to please them all)

[personal profile] jerkalope 2024-05-01 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
No, I would have remembered that!

[ being stuck in her mouth that time ]

But I also have been raised to know that it's rude to ask a lady her age, weight, and if she's venomous.

Good man.

Our venom causes a temporary overload of the dopamine system and produces intense feelings of euphoria. So if I ever need to get blitzed out of my gourd for 20 minutes, I can do it on my own. No magic required!
