This is Eph'meris. It is not my home but . . . where I was most recently before . . . arriving in the Meadow. Next.








This is Meris. Meris was once the primordial . . . sea goddess that formed Eph'meris and its people. Now she is a . . . festering mass of malice, squatting in the astral sea and longing only . . . to drag all life she encounters with her into the abyss. Next.








This is the Merisian Pillar Array, which turns one or several individuals into the "Pillar" of Eph'meris. It allows the bulk of Meris's hatred, necrotic power, and general "evil bullshit" to be visited on . . . that one or several persons rather than . . . reality itself. It also fortifies those individuals' . . . bodies to bear this malice without being destroyed. It also . . . kills them. Next.









This is a small piece of the Merisian Pillar Array, that we are . . . currently calling the "Gate". It's purpose is to . . . ensure that the energy exerted by Meris upon reality is directed at the selected Pillar, but also that . . . some of this energy may be siphoned off to the Merisian power grid. I am told . . . this is "like electricity but worse" but I don't . . . actually know what electricity is. Next.

Think that's s'posed t'do with this, here—

[ flips through a few papers to pull out a section that looks like two structure styles stitched together, like it was originally written one way and then someone came and added a modification to it but did it in Their Better Way and didn't put enough scaffolding to hold the structure styles together well ]

—the syntax's the same so I'm guessin' it was the same writer for those parts, but yours comes way later.

Instead'a writin' two separate pathways, they just changed around this old structure so that when that—[ angie's pieces ]—is "on", it moves along this runic path—[ down the older structure style ]—an' when it's "off", it moves along the newer path instead.

That's what we know the intent of it is, as a tool. What it actually DOES is going to be a series of compromises and approximations, because dreams, and reality, are two very different things. The reason I insist on combing over it, bit to bit to bit, is so that we learn which of those compromises are profoundly idiotic, and which of them we ought to keep honoring.


On that note...
Do you think... they could be using all that run around to set a rhythm on purpose? Look at this.

I didn't know where they were they were getting their confidence that this awful little squiggle would flare up in perfect common time, but now, I'm thinking...

Wouldn't surprise me. Music's just another language to imbue magic into. Easier to get all the parts t'work in harmony if they're timed right too . . .
