Death here is... malleable. Because our souls don't belong to that underworld, Death doesn't really want them. When the eye on the fountain is closed, that means we can easily be rezzed, like in an RPG.

But she also doesn't wanna be bothered much, so sometimes the eye will be open, and if we die when it's open we get stuck in a horrifying inescapable nightmare we can't wake up from until the next time the eye closes.
