[ sometime in the earlier evening, (Maomao) comes toddling out of the Daffodil barn and takes like... five steps before she turns to look at her workshop.

that was not there before?? no, wait, maybe she saw that happen? SHE'D BEEN PRETTY OUT OF IT WHEN SHE'D COME STUMBLING TO DAFFODIL EARLIER THAT DAY. what the heckie. ]

...I thought I hallucinated that.

( well. someone must have wandered into a dream... and what a dream it is! a magnificent theme park surrounds you, with joyful music playing overhead. is that a cloud bounce house? and those churros smell amazing! a phoenix-penguin in a jester outfit waddles around, waving to anyone and everyone before it gives them a handshake or a highfive or whatever else. and wow! there's even bumpercar races! truly, this is the best day ever.

except

in the crowd, there's a crying child. a familiar child... oh, but. she's still a cat. kitten. whatever.

_{[ you have a brief, strange dream.

You're a red sheep, with a long, fluffy tail. You're resting in the shadow of a castle with a tall, gleaming blade rising from its center. There are two yellow moons in the sky, like a pair of leering eyes.

Dark clouds and high winds roll in over the rustling, grassy field. Torrential rains pour down-- and with them, strangely, motes of fire. The grass lights, and you feel its heat, but it never quite reaches you. You start to run toward the castle to take shelter from the elements, from which it remains untouched--

But the castle... sprouts a pair of giant, brilliant white angel wings, and folds them up over itself. Closing itself off, out of reach.

A shadow passes over your woolly shoulder. A black feather, lands beside you. Find another way. You chase after that shadow-- its trail of black feathers, the growing chill in the air--

But happen to wonder, a moment. About that castle's fate.

But the moment you presume to look,
The castle's wings rapidly begin to corrupt, turning black and ashen, as that holy presence dies away, to become--

This dreams ends there. ]}

Well, where the man who aspires to be as a Dove walks, crowds part. Without a care for any obstacle, he walks over to the familiar child, and does his best not to loom as he crouches down to eye level. ]}

( sonata wails, hiccuping as she tries to rub her eyes. she's not supposed to talk to strangers, but...

( sonata accepts it but is just... kind of bawls into the kerchief. the kind gesture does lighten some of it though.

This place wasn't so scary before you got lost, now, was it? It looks... quite fun, in fact, to me. It doesn't have to be scary. You're not alone, dear. I'm right here. That means--

_{[ he surreptitiously glances around for signs of the mom. There's only so long they have here before he has to move her, or otherwise contrive young Sonata out of sight.

As promised, his eyes on the weaving shapes of people,
he counts her through some breaths. ]}

[You're deep within the ocean, but not to worry - you can swim and breathe just fine. It's just a dream, after all...

The water is murky and dark, and the only light comes from several bioluminescent plants and magically illuminated orbs surrounding a single building nearby. Through the windows of this small, single-room hovel you can see the dark silhouette of a long merman swimming about.

Should you get closer, you'll find that the silhouette doesn't get any lighter in the room's illumination. In fact, this dark shape is dripping the ink that's causing the ocean around this area to be so murky in the first place. His left eye glows brightly, but otherwise he's completely in shadow.

He's muttering to himself as he swims about, checking shelves full of books and potions. The whole room is nothing but shelves.]

Questions, answers... answers, questions...

[ the first thing you'll notice in this dream is that it's hot. the sun shines brightly, relentlessly, in a clear, clear sky.

the second thing you'll notice is that it's noisy. you seem to be in some sort of street market with colorful stalls and tents and colorful people, too—most are human shaped, though many either wear clothing indicative of a certain animal or they just deadass have appendages of that certain animal. cat people, yes, loads—most have spotted tails and/or ears—and dog people, but also floppy eared fellows of various kinds, some with horns of various styles—straight or curved or spiraling—and people with normal ears but so many feather decorations(?) and/or shockingly vibrant hair colors styled in ways that make them reminiscent of feathers. it's staggering, the diversity here—it's like someone literally humanified an entire ecosystem? gijinka savanna??

but there are also animals! honest to goodness normal-ass animals in the market, just free-roaming and mingling like they're just as much customer or merchant as the rest of the human-shaped people. some of the human-shaped people also seem to be lacking any identifiable animal parts (though a small contingent of them also have pointed elven ears). and, among the humanoids, some are wearing clothes of of a particular style, including the beaded lion masks.

it's quite the bustling place, but even with all the clamor you can catch sight of burly beastwomen in lightweight but decorated armor, holding spears at their respective stations between every few stalls or at the perimeter of the market. ?? actually it's kind of a lot of s . . . soldiers? guards?? wonder what that's about.

in any case if your senses aren't assaulted enough you can also smell so. much. food. sweet and salty and spicy and savory, thoroughly cooked and raw and every shade in between. there's even seafood here—just like the people, the food options are incredibly diverse.

there's a lot going on, so you should be forgiven if you don't immediately notice the small boy with dark skin and darker hair trying to catch your attention. his little lion ears are almost completely covered by his own lion mask, but the scar on his left eye might look familiar. ]

. . . Hey! Are you in line or what?

[ the adolescent voice carries a distinct tone of impatience, mirrored by his restlessly flicking tail. although you should be forgiven, it seems this child does in fact not forgive you. ]

Là là, are you in a great hurry?

Mm... e-everything's all sparkly, and Phenny's here... b-but Mommy...

( there is no woman with purple hair in sight.

sonata nods with a wibbly sniffle and tries to do as told, though the occasional hiccup interrupts. )

turns to the baby lion with an annoyed face. WHY are there so many GUARDS how can you STEAL like this!!1]

[Odin is actually younger here, around 9 or 10, and even shorter than he usually is. What a crime. He's also dressed in worn clothes and lacking anything particularly colorful, and is going 'tch' as he looks around at the area.]

So many guards...what, is the king here or something?

[That's when the little lion catches his attention and he blinks a couple times.]

No, does it look like I have the money for any of this?

[He was going to steal some but he's not getting away with it with all these guards here.]

Nope, it was there earlier.

[Odin is walking by on the path but he stops when he sees Maomao there.]

[He keeps stealing food from this guy so it's honestly funny for him to go invading his dream too.

Being underwater is new though. Odin manages to move through the water pretty easily, it's not all that different from using gentle gravitational pulls to jump over long distances. The water resistance is just a bit of a pain.

The figure there though, it's a little scary at first- he's always been uneasy about the dark- but he swallows down his worries and goes over to it.]

It's my workshop, yes... but that's not where I left it.

Out in the pasture... It was definitely there this morning.

[ after a moment she sighs deeply, pinching the bridge of her nose. ]

Well. I know that at least some of Daffodil won't mind, so that'll do for now.

It's probably a little safer than the outer field too.

[ she puts a hand to her neck. her collar is still black; she'd seen it before she'd left Daffodil's barn. ]

I'll have to thank whoever set this up.
