[ after his extremely adventurous day aides, still featuring fluffy blue kitty ears and an enormously fluffy (think snow leopard fluffy) blue kitty tail,
is heading back to lily. nothing good ever comes from leaving the house. he's learned this now ]
[ today was a FORCED day of REST so one (1) catman is heading back from the lazy river. aside from that minor scare with Aides, today was a pretty chill day! as for the Aides issue...
[AT SOME POINT maybe on his way? maybe in his room? a rubatocube appears! It doesn't make noise but does spout shiny musical notes, waiting to be noticed.]
[There's an eruption of vines from the ground and the frightened bleat of a sheep right in Aides' path as he heads back. He may find himself face-to-face with a dangling red sheep in a dapper top hat (that's somehow managed to stay in place despite it being dangled from a vine) with a magipen in its mouth.
A panting eel merman arrives shortly after to glare at it and snatch his pen back.]
Got you. Don't give me a reason to add you to the dinner menu.
[there's a slight girl in a dark, tattered dress sitting on the edge of the fountain tonight, head lowered, wings curling low against the sides of her head. there's something fucky and feathery going on with half of her face.
her intact eye is closed as if in meditation, and one of the Weeds' black coins is in her hand.]
((i will be trying for lower-key interactions and low chance of fucking characters up here! if you super want something heavier tap me in Discord to talk first ♥))
[ There is something still very curious about her, so he can't resist... Zenith floats down from the sky to land next to her, looking curiously at the coin she's holding. ]
[ watches her quietly. there's a faint... embarrassment coming from him, that he's not bothering to hide. he still doesn't suspect her at all for delivering him to Rose, but the honeysuckle fiasco is a different story. ]
[walks right up to her, a basket full of laundry propped up on his hip. his thoughts lean towards disdain and something like pity, but nothing actively hostile. the eye is open. there would simply be no point. they learned as much from dealing with Patches over and over and over again.
gestures to the coin in her hand; her eyes are closed, so it's not like she can see the movement, but he's assuming she's Aware of her surroundings even with that]
Or, who he assumed to be The Bird, based on warnings. At first, Chronos kept his distance, but he didn't hide his overt focus on her. He stood right out in the open and stared right at her, not even bothering to be subtle or polite about it. After some time, he slowly started to approach.]
[ Ananke's passing by the fountain on his way back to Lily's barn when he spots her there, and he notices her before he's close enough for any recognition to set in. Whatever's going on with her face is much too concerning to connect her with Perci's warning ]
Hey, are you okay?
[ He looks concerned, but there's no trace of the emotion actually coming from him. ]
[ it's a perfectly normal slice of life day! Blood Fifi is in loose-fitting black outfit (ponytail included) that looks like it was handcrafted out of a large blanket; default Rose clothing is way too restrictive for something like this. there's a sunflower triple fastened onto his back. no gun for this one.
day 24 debriefings: done. objectives: test weed powers (storm cloud, shadow travel), test touching a shadow beast via flying, test shadow beast possession if it feels intuitive thanks to Blossom's "suggestion", go home.
he's meeting the other two at the edge of the mist, close to the lake. how y'all doin ]
[ Maomao is dressed in the clothes she first arrived in--the tattered ragged look meant for Weeds, because frankly she is expecting trouble. No matter what Blood Fifi and Zenith might say, she really doesn't want to ruin her decent clothes. Crois got those for her. :|
She does have an empty basket strapped to her back. ]
There's too many factors that would make it impossible for nothing to be going on.
Too many tumblers in place for the lock to not be undone. The state of Thistle. Their plans. Rose's whispers. The eye being shut...
But, she can't do anything.
She's too weak. She's the weed. Everyone knows she's loyal to the Snake.
So... she can't do anything. Too many balls were up in the air to hope to juggle. Too many masks were being held and waiting to see which one she'd have to wear next. So she couldn't do anything.
Nothing, except waste time. This night it was video games in the rec room. At an alien-shooting game. Only here she was shooting the 'helper' characters you weren't supposed to shoot.]
[Pond Fiend has two coins to toss into the fountain today because oops he forgot to use his previous one. Too many distractions. No one on his team had gotten onto him for it, so either they didn't care or no one had noticed. So he'll just be tossing both in now.]
ONE
[The first memory is another one he recognizes from Camp Vargas. Perhaps it's because that had happened so recently before his arrival that he's peeked into it several times. It's still very fresh. In any case, this one shows his time spent teasing poor Cater when they were divided up to do a few tasks. Not letting him eat a perfectly edible mushroom, making him drink filtered lake water instead of the bottled water provided... he would consider all of these things enhancing the boy's experience. It's obvious that Cater doesn't quite feel the same way.
At this point it's hard to tell if the merman is teasing to be a nuisance or because he genuinely likes the boy from Heartslabyul, but oftentimes the result is the same. He isn't all that interested in looking back on this regardless, as his brother isn't involved.]
TWO
[Then the other eel in question appears and Pond Fiend is instantly leaning over the edge of the fountain to get a better look.
They're in the kitchen of Mostro Lounge. Floyd has an apron on and appears to be making something over the stove, while Pond Fiend sits at the nearby staff table. After a few moments of listening to the enticing sound of food sizzling, his brother lays a few items out on a plate and brings them over, setting them down in front of him.]
Azul said the last one went over well so he wanted me to add some variation. Figured we didn't have enough spice on the menu and I've been wanting to put chilis on everything today so why not this? Smells good, right?
[It's being given to him to taste test, he realizes, and he watches himself dig in with a smile as Floyd looks on expectantly. He shouldn't be surprised that the first thing he offers up is criticism.]
Well it's a good start! Though I feel like the chili overpowers the rest of the seasoning a bit too much, which is a shame because it's such a good blend.
Huh. You think so?
Yes, but it's an easy fix. Now the batter is also a tad dry...
Really?
...but I think if you let it crisp up on the bottom that would improve things immensely.
Uh huh.
And perhaps the portion size could be bigger?
I'll bring it up.
[The more Pond Fiend goes on, the less seriously Floyd takes his critiquing - mostly because the whole time he's been talking he's been eating up every last crumb in front of him. Honestly that much should be expected. The eel in the apron rolls his eyes as he collects the plate.]
Man, I dunno if I feel like redoing it right now.
[Pond Fiend gives him half of a pout.] Perhaps just one more try? I'm sure you'll get it right this time.
[Though he looks like he's about to argue, his brother sighs and with a drawn out 'fiiiiiine' turns back to the stove again.]
-
[Then the memory ends, and Pond Fiend sits down at the edge of the fountain to bury his face in his arms.]
[As usual, Azdaja is Lurking, keeping an eye on the other Roses without engaging. She manages to spy on the fountain memories while Jade is (hopefully) distracted.
She genuinely loves the mountain memory. Maybe she and Jade have more in common than she thought. And when he talks about being a merman, some things click into place for her regarding some of their conversations, and the perpetual stockpile of fish in the fridge, and why he always smells of brine.
The second memory is also interesting to watch. She never met Floyd, but it makes sense to her that they would look as similar as they do. It's cute that they evidently shared their interests along with their looks.
As the memory ends, she opens her mouth to say something-- but then Jade hides his face, and she catches herself. This looks(?) Like a gesture of distress(?), she's pretty sure. All of her immediate impulses are to make this worse, and a dozen ways of doing it spring to mind unbidden. But that's probably not an appropriate thing to do in this situation, right? Things are not the same here as they are at home. She doesn't understand how these people think. She can't predict how they'll react.
While she would LIKE to go for this soft, exposed underbelly and pry him open like a clam to see what kind of thought processes are going on inside his head (for science!)... maybe the kindest thing she knows how to do in this situation, she thinks, is to just go away and leave him alome.
