RITUAL 32 - never have i ever

WHO: you
WHERE: around the pasture
WHEN: morning 86

[so how are we doing, everybody? feeling a little more together? feeling a little furry, floaty, or both? well–don’t mind this newer Weed who’s just climbed up on a big rock, clapping his mildly bloody hands together to get your attention.

is that a new demon hovering around him? well–this might as well happen.]

‘Scuse me! I’m Father Argent, if we haven’t previously met. I know this is a little presumptuous and all, but it seems like most people could use a pick-me-up right now? So my friend over here and I have, well, arranged something. I hope you’ll indulge us today!

[and a little ripple of movement goes through the surrounding area, transforming it – the colours of this part of the pasture go pastel, and everything gets bubbly. rocks are now round and bouncy, the grass loses its edges and looks more like a carpet of fat succulents, fences look and feel kinda like pool noodles. you can bounce around without damaging anything, if you build up enough momentum, but even without doing that it’s just…nice to hang out on, soft and springy. there’s also some random clear spheres hanging here and there in the air, filled with small round crunchy snacks and drinks like popcorn, or pork rind and grain puffs, or gummies, or cold water, or weak beer. not enough to fill up on or really get drunk, but something to munch and keep you refreshed.

y’all are stuck here for a bit! and even if you’re not in immediate range or holed up indoors, you might feel the pull to come see what’s up – or simply be teleported into the ritual zone, in a bright popping flurry of bubbles.]

[THIS WAS A GOOD CHOICE SHE GETS TO SEE SO MUCH PRETTY SNOW]

...No. I'm from a desert planet, so there was no rain either, actually.

Whole place was like that?

[he nods to where the bubble was] 'S up north where I'm from, snows almost year 'round.
reportinastorm: (E06-02)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, there's no water across the whole planet.
throughbamboo: (040)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-15 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
. . . no disrespect, but how's that work for people livin' there? Ya get water a different way?
reportinastorm: (E03-01)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-15 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. There are beings called Plants, that generate power and water and the other things that allow humans to survive.
throughbamboo: (068)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Huh . . . so's all artificial? They make power too?
reportinastorm: (E05-16)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-15 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
It depends what you consider artificial, I suppose...
throughbamboo: (004)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-15 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Not too sure, there ain't nothin' like that where I'm from.

I assume you're from Earth... From your perspective, I'm probably from your far future, after humanity sent colony ships into space.

Plants are organic beings. They're... similar in a lot of ways to humans, though generally they aren't conscious. But they have the ability to pull energy from a higher dimension and covert that to matter, electricity, gravity... Almost anything.

[does that help]

[kind of but now he has so many more questions]

Yeah, that sounds like far future.

That's . . . somethin', though. Sounds straight outta one of those scifi movies more'n bein' from the future. [he tilts his head] Ya said generally - that ain't always the case?
reportinastorm: (E03-01)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-15 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Not always, no. There are at least two Independent Plants.
throughbamboo: (056)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-15 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh . . .

Dunno what ta think 'bout that.
reportinastorm: (E05-16)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-15 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...It's a complicated situation. Without the Plants, humanity would die almost immediately. But it's definitely the case that humans use and even abuse them. I'd like to help move us towards a better solution...
throughbamboo: (011)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-15 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah . . . 'swhere I thought it might go. Tch.

'S a nice thing ta work towards, though. Think it's possible?
reportinastorm: (E09-06)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
...Being here has made me more optimistic about it. Seeing all the water and flowers and trees everywhere... The greenhouses... If we can figure out how to cultivate them on No Man's Land, it should at least help take the load off the plants.
throughbamboo: (068)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-16 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
'M sure you'll figure out some way to get it goin'. Like ya said, there's plenty here to give a possible start, so 'm glad.
reportinastorm: (E06-02)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-16 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, there's actually someone who's already started cultivating flora... A scientist who's been working on it for many years. But they're only present in a dome supported by a large number of Plants, right now. It will take a lot of work to make it into something that can really be a substitute.
throughbamboo: (097)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, ain't the kinda thing ya just figure out overnight.

[considering]

Ya ever seen the beach? Not like the one here with the mist'n shit.
reportinastorm: (E01-25)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
The one here isn't that bad...
throughbamboo: (051)

[personal profile] throughbamboo 2024-06-16 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, 's not bad. But I showed ya snow, lemme show ya a beach. Gimme an I never thing.
reportinastorm: (E09-25)

[personal profile] reportinastorm 2024-06-16 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[smiles a bit]

Alright.

[she does so]
