And I've seen what happens when a half-blood lets bitterness get the better of him. It isn't pretty. That's never going to me.

No, I mean... I get it. Being a superhero doesn't exactly come with vacation days either. I've just only been doing this a year, so I was wondering...y'know. If it stays like that.

[ glances at him ]

How do you keep the bitterness from getting to you?

[ and boy! breathes out so slowly as he thinks that one over ]

I don't know if I'm the best person to ask about that. But I just try to hold onto what matters? The good. I love my friends. I love my girlfriend. I love my mom and stepdad. I've been really, really lucky with a lot of the people in my life.

[ glances over at ananke. half-amused, half-sweet ]

Here, that's Lily. You guys have no idea how much you hold me together. I'd pretty much be a wreck without you.

I believe you about Lily though. I think I'd have lost my mind after my second week if I didn't have them around.

Really, it's been that long already? It feels like you and Kevin just got here.

To you, maybe. And don't get me wrong, I get why. But on my end...definitely feels like it's been some time.

I dunno, I thought my first two weeks went way too fast. I guess there has been less stuff happening since you both arrived... It was pretty quiet for your first few days, so it makes sense for that to feel like it dragged on.

[ slow eyebrow lift ]

What were your first two weeks like?

Uh...well. I had to deal with Scarab when he didn't remember or trust anyone and wanted me to kill basically anyone who looked at us for longer than 5 seconds. But on top of that, on my first or second day one of Lily's old members was attacked by this psychic swarm of birds, and Minuet went in to try to fix it and pulled me and everyone else in by mistake. And I saw everyone's worst memories and a bunch of other stuff about their feelings and had to figure out how to fight someone on the astral plane or whatever.

We also got turned into bombs when we lost a ritual in my first week, and then we had to blow ourselves up before anyone else could say the detonation phrase and take out us and anyone around us. And then in the second week we got betrayed by Rose in a ritual, and Lethe and I both were killed.

I think some other stuff happened, but it was kind've a blur between all of that.

...okay, yeah you know what? I've just had Kevin showing up and the Meris thing, and that's a cakewalk by comparison.

[ Laughs in a "laugh or you'll cry" tone ]

No kidding. It's kind've why I was so intense when you guys first got here. I was really worried you'd have as hard a time as I did.

The Meris thing is still pretty bad though.

Yeah, I would've reacted the same way.

[ and...shrugs ]

Well, no one's been blown up, so like. I definitely think that's way worse.

Yeah... The bomb thing is definitely in the top 3 worst things list.

Here's hoping nothing like that ever happens again.

As long as no one kills the Doki-Doki demon again, it won't.

[ literally stops and looks at him ]

That is not its name.

I swear on both my grandmas that's a real demon's name, but it's not the one that made us bombs. Someone killed her because they thought she was about to wipe out whole teams, so then Bon-Bon, her brother, ran a ritual and turned three teams into bombs instead.

[ handwave handwave Ananke totally transferred the batter to the baking pan already, so it can go in the oven now ]

Now we just wait half an hour.

[ handwaving away, the oven's preheated, everything is Ready ]

Do you wanna get some fresh air? Scarab can set a timer so we don't have to worry about forgetting the brownies.
